Reiki is a technique recognised by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and is now practised by more than six million people. Although it has been adopted late in its career compared to the United States, it is becoming increasingly accepted by Spanish companies.
This is nothing new. Since 2010, in the United States, companies such as General Mills and Google have been offering courses to their employees on these techniques with the main objective of reducing employee stress.
But what is Reiki? It is a form of alternative medicine developed in 1922 by the Japanese Buddhist Mikao Usui. Since its origin in Japan, it has been adapted into various cultural traditions around the world. Its practitioners believe that through a technique called the laying on of hands, a "universal energy" (reiki) is transferred from the palms of the hand to the patient in order to promote emotional or physical healing.
With the help of Professor Mercury, a Reiki master for over 20 years, businesspeople and managers have been able to learn about Reiki and discuss this practice at the Institute of Business Directors.
According to Professor Mercury, "Reiki can help companies in many ways: by improving muscle pain, overcoming fatigue, improving memory and self-esteem... but, above all, it helps us relax." The benefits, according to those who have practiced it, are proven, although there are always reservations among the most skeptical.
Corporate Reiki can help employees relax and can be beneficial for a work environment where there is a lot of stress and a rush. However, it should also be noted that it cannot be considered an alternative medicine that can replace medical therapy.
After a long debate between executives at the Institute of Business Directors, Reiki masters and business people invited to the event, it was concluded that Reiki can help the business environment, especially when it comes to reducing stress and learning relaxation techniques among employees and managers.
